The Points System
Implemented in Fall 2010, the new points system adds benefits for active members beyond the scholarship:
Basics: Earn approximately 1 pt. for every hour you dedicate to NSCS
- 1 hr. in the general meeting = 1 pt.
- 1 hr. of community service = 1 pt.
- 1 hr. of fundraising = 2 pts.
- 1 hr. of participation in social events = 1 pt.
Member Rewards (accumulation for one year, Fall and Spring):
- Bronze Member = 10 pts. accumulated
- Earn the Bronze Certificate along with a free NSCS t-shirt
- Silver Member = 20 pts. accumulated
- Earn the Silver Certificate and a $20 gift card
- Gold Member = 30 pts. accumulated
- Earn the Gold Certificate and a night on the town (2 movie tickets and coupons for stuff)
- Platinum Member = 50 pts. accumulated
- Earn the Platinum Certificate and ticket(s) to a venue of choice (i.e. sports events, concerts, museums, etc)
Scholarships:
At the end of the year (spring semester), members can apply for a local chapter scholarship. Although short essays are required, the decision is largely based on the points earned by the applicants. These scholarships usually range between $100 and $500 depending on the number of recipients and the financial status of the chapter.
Scholarship Opportunities
In addition to the chapter scholarship mentioned above, the national organization provides an abundance of scholarships to NSCS members. Often, very few members apply for these scholarships, making them easy to get, despite the fact that they are nationally competitive. To apply:
- Go to the national website here
- Sign in with the username and password provided to you when you became a member
- Click the "Scholarships" tab on the left
- Find a scholarship you're interested in
- Click to apply
Graduation Stoles and Tassels
The local chapter does not provide graduation material. You are encouraged to purchase such material from the national website under the "Shop NSCS Store" tab to the left when logged in.
